As my Dilli Sojourn ended ...

18/4/2010
Am back to Ludhiana and the vacation trip to Delhi, was quite good.
I visited several places, met friends, family; made new friends and had a gala time.
Thanks to the Commonwealth Games 2010, the govt thr is really making some efforts to refurbish the whole place (to please the foreign guests). So in that process we have better connectivity through buses (more local AC buses I witnessed, than I ever did in Delhi), better buses, ever expanding metro, diminishing yet well paved footpaths, etc etc.

But all those things like railways, which the foreigners most probably would not see, are in a pathetic condition.

5th April, 2009

On 5th April, 2009, went to Gurudwara Manji Sahib, Alamgir. Wanted to go their for a long time now. The whole trip was nice. The weather was quite good. Saw wheat, all ripe and golden, set to be cultivated and taken to mandis.

______________________________________________

Perhaps, I have never ever mentioned of this trip before on any of my blogs. It gives me a great solemn feeling to visit new places, know more about religiosity and significant religious places. Such places not only talk of history and grandeur but also of resilience and what can be termed as test of times. Although it is a sorry state of affairs that almost all of religious shrines are so very united and akin today in one single aspect. Corruption. In politer terms I can say, almost each religious place of history and repute I have visited till now, there is a clear picture of mismanagement of funds that the devotees with all their hearts offer to their Gods.
Intellectually also bankruptcy and confusion prevails. Sad. But true.

Only thing to be optimistic is, that each religion, directly or indirectly tells us about miracles that may happen.
So Amen to that !!!

Planning of Family Planning in India

While surfing news channels on TV or viewing some documentary I usually find some poor people being shown. A typical family of poor people will be always shown with one mother, holding one child in hand and a bunch of kids surrounding the mother. Whatever be the show, time, channel or location, this is what a picture generally depicts.

I often wonder here, if the family is poor, is unable to feed the kids or afford their education, why are there so many kids in that family. It is a simple case of you don't go about getting things for yourself, that you cannot afford. And here, when I see 3 or 4 or 5 children to the same couple, I am astonished. Man, your economic condition is not feasible for one child and you are raising 5. The result. All 5 will eat one time of the day. I say, if you could have 2 kids then is it not possible that those 2 kids could have eaten twice a day.

Even in my travels, I have noticed this. Poor families tend to have a larger flock of children. A lot of material I have read and watched on TV has also pointed to the same thing. What may be the reason for that? Maybe they don't really know about family planning? Or more importantly about birth control measures, like condoms, pills for abortion or I pills or birth control pills. Perhaps they just don't afford it or perhaps they like large families.

Of course, it is a private family matter to have kids and decide on their number. But, on the society scene, look at the Maoists and their doings. Primary cause for popularity of their enterprise is that poor people don't have enough land to live on. They want land. But when you have such large families, you shall always have more claimants for land. Plus, we are having shortage of essential commodities and goods, so we got to keep our population in check.

I asked on my facebook profile about friends' opinion on the matter. Keerti, a friend of mine pointed out and I quote " education is the major Problem.....:(". I feel, she has hit the bull's eye here. If we look at it, majority of the rural women in India, who are poor also scale too low on the literacy rate. A well educated person would know better of having how many kids and the impact the society has to brace.

Perhaps the boldest and some may say the best move by Central government ever to control population was during emergency in the late 70's. You get hold of a man, perform a surgical procedure and he won't be a father ever. Due to press censorship of those times, not much is known about it. But several stories confirming this fact have tumbled out over the period of time. One guy was just married and he had that vasectomy done forcefully.

This daring idea was of the son of Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. Sanjay Gandhi had family planning amongst one of his priorities and since emergency was their, no one could do anything about anything. The Prime Minister had all government institutions from Judiciary to Parliament in her pockets and sycophancy was at its peak. This gave rise to competition amongst officials as to who will outnumber whom in this game of vasectomy. Perhaps that is the reason for a new wedded guy with no child getting forced into it.

Today their is no such pressure on people and making aware to people about it to people does not seem to be high on the government's agenda. Condoms, that are distributed for free are more part of the AIDS campaign than anything else.

Much more needs to be done on that front. For, many poor people will not figure on the census scale. We never even know the proper data and facts. One of the steps can be, to make sure that all public representatives elected or contesting elections, from the Panchayat elections to the Lok Sabha elections should not have more than 2 kids. Leaders have to be role - model in themselves. Education, like Keerti's point I mentioned above is necessary too. We need well educated, well informed citizens who understand the problem well and do something about it.

Population is one problem that can be sorted best by people in their bedrooms. But a vigorous campaign should be planned out and executed well. Like the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan, popularized by the Vajpayee government in 2000's. Taxes, I feel should be imposed on anyone producing more than 3 children (or 4 or 2, depending on what the figure can be reached by consensus). I have not studied or researched the one child policy, prevalent in China, but read tid - bits and heard about it. So, that should be researched thoroughly, inspirations should be drawn (that literally means, eliminate the negatives, pick up the brightest ideas and delve on the conclusions) to make up our very own policy. Hum do Hamare do (We two, ours two) is no longer going to work in the New India. Also, adoption should be made easier and better. People should be advised an encouraged to adopt instead of giving birth to children.

Do leave a comment on what you think as the effective cure of family planning in India.

Has the 21st century marked the death of poetry?

Think about it. Once upon a time, poetry was a very intrinsic part of literature. From urdu shayari to English poems, almost all languages on Earth used to boast of some memorable couplets and rhymes.

In Hinduism a lot many ancient or old prayers have been written in a poetic format. Hanuman Chalisa is an example. In the western world, Wordsworth was pretty famous for his lines. But today, if you ask me of some latest very famous poet, I would not know a name.

Publishers across the globe, are increasingly putting up a board on their submission guidelines that bans entry of poetry into their offices. They won't publish poetry.

I find that pretty strange. No more Mirza Ghalibs, No more poets like Shiv Kumar Batalvi, Mahadevi Varma, Robert Frost etc. Opportunities are dying for poets today. Not that the poets of yesteryear used to earn a lot. At least they enjoyed a level of fame. In today's world no one wants to be a poet. You can never make a living out of it, anyway.

I used to write poetry once. I feel poetry is one of the best mediums to express your feelings. A sense of beauty flows down with your thoughts. It is also a more powerful medium to give down a message if that is your purpose. Better than an essay or a speech I feel. That is why we just don't rant of pages and pages in front of God but sing a hymn or two to praise or to show devotion.

Poetry, over the years established groups of people. There were schools of poetry, several forms of poetry ( Now most people or hobbyists who write poems, usually just follow the rhyme code) like sonnets, Odes etc. I don't know whether ballads are also poems, but too are near extinct anyway.

Why exactly is that happening? Perhaps in the 21st century, we just don't have that serene, timeless calm. We are in too much hurry all the time, to notice the daffodils like maybe Wordsworth did. We no longer have that atmosphere of the past, where you could sit outdoors and listen to someone say a couplet or too. When patrons did meet a poet over tea or coffee and discuss the latest piece written. Now we have noisy pubs and even more noisy clubs or chaotic shopping malls for hangouts.

The good news is that hymns and lyrics are two formats of poetry that are still alive and thriving.

13th December, 2009

Life is pretty boring. As always.
Kya karen, kuch samajh nai aata. M does not even talk to me anymore and I had consoled myself that maybe God had sent K so that I be friends with N or M. But humse kaun baat karta hai. Rab sabka khayal rkhta hai, bas mujhse hi koi narazgi lagti hai. Samajh nai aata, when will I be free from these shackles. Mostly psychological which have mushroomed all around me. Lots of which maybe my own self - created, may be which no one could ever help resolve. What can be the solution? Problem galore and the kind of helplessness I am dealing with them is very very difficult.

That was something written several months ago. And speaking of old times and old days, I am going to recommend a blog extinct years ago. It is called Journal My Christmas . The format and presentation of the blog pulled me towards it. 30 days of Christmas, chronicled very well. Must for regular bloggers to take a sneak peak.

Phobia of online friendship

Let me set the record straight. Online friendships are not good. I say this from my own personal experience. You can never make close friends on the internet. That is my opinion.

I am writing today on what I see as a weird attitude, people have towards online friendships. A person drops in a hello, you don't know that fellow, hence you freak out. I can recall here a number of blogs I have read on how people hate strangers eager to be friends.

I feel this shows how reserved and closed we are becoming day by day. If a stranger says hi, what is the harm in it? Until and unless that particular starts stalking you, why not be friends?
I am one of the those, who embraces friendships with open arms and cautious eyes. I have traveled a lot, solitary and discovered places on my own. On many occasions, I got to meet certain people, or travelers with whom you say a hello or exchange greetings. So to me, making friends on internet or in actual world is the same affair. Appear friendly, but be cautious. Not everyone in this World is a messenger of Satan. Cautious you got to be, for messengers of God are changing sides too often these days.

Also, in comparison to many people on the internet who despise friendships with strangers to the core, at heart I am a reclusive fellow. I don't like mixing with crowds much. Still, I am more comfortable treating people in a friendly fashion.

The only factor where one needs to be strong is, not to get close with your online friends. Maintain and acquaintance level. And that's it. Why go hyper and weird as if a bug bit you off while you were concentrating on TV.

The divide between urban and rural India

A very old topic. One part of India is rich and one part poor. Happens all the time. You might be expecting me to say that real India is still in villages.

But no, I don't wish to highlight the plight of poor helpless people of India. My objective today is to write about the plight of urban people of India. Comfortable incomes, cozy homes. How they have completely forgotten their countrymen in the villages. People are dying of hunger and thirst in so many regions of India and the people who are better advantaged simply don't care.
One fact: India ranks amongst highest in countries where children die of hunger and malnutrition.
It's appalling. The urban kids of today, know it all. From the latest soundtrack of an international band to latest gizmo models. They know it all. Then how come they are so unaware when it comes to the reality that a lot many children of their own age group are dying of hunger. And that many could not even turn teenagers for they died of malnutrition.

Another Fact -
In Feb 2010, the house of Principal secretary, Departmen of women and child development, Madhya Pradesh was raided by sleuths. Approx 4 crores were found in cash.
In rural Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and other states a lot many children just don't survive because their is no food.

So I asked 3 of my very urban friends on how they felt on children dying of hunger in India

Blogger Shreya Aggarwal remarked - "Google Kar le " ( Google it)
Blogger Tamanna Kakkar said and I quote -

"patta nahin

i eman i read in

6th standard

moral science book

ki na

koi bhi hunger sey nahin marrta hotta

there was this thing about birds

ki they have faith

ki unko banaya hai

toh unkey liyye

khana bhi bana hai

kahin na kahin

patta nai

i want

ki aisa hi ho

He who created us also created food for us"

People are dying for lack of food. But on paper crores and crores of money is earmarked and also supposedly to feed these children. Where does those thousands of crores go? Government has so many schemes and plans in Delhi. Then why are their dead bodies of malnourished kids in rural parts of Central India?

Adithya, a friend of mine who is an amazing writer and a budding philosopher in the making remarked:
"Firstly, the society has no obligation whatsoever, unless it is willful participation, which may sound cruel, but you'll be amazed at the human sympathy-triggering ratio.
People who are willing can donate/help whoever they want, out of choice. Poverty is not the suction of the riches form the poor, it is the ignorance, or the incapability of the poor to ever dream."

So, is their nothing that the Urban India do? I was in Delhi in April and what a city New Delhi has become. All the shine and polish. It is in capital that such decisions have to be taken. But if implementation is not happening, money is their then why does not any body do anything? Because perhaps for urban India youth, that would be not cool enough?
or because the urban youth is becoming so shallow and devoid of sentiment that they cannot visualize the plight of those children craving for food. For one roti. Who have not perhaps tasted any vegetable in their lives. How they have to battle everyday, with barely any food and want of stomach. Bhook.com tells us that about 20 crore people shall sleep hungry tonight. I think the figure should be higher.
I don't know whom to be against here. The urban people, carefree and unsentimental or to those bureaucrats and politicians, guzzling in money meant for food for those poor children.

I can only conclude by saying that we are very barbaric people. Letting someone die of hunger to fulfill our own greed or letting people die and closing our eyes. It is a very high degree of callousness.
Very high degree.

Who needs the government?

Simple question. Before reading further, think about it. Government is basically a body of people, who collect money from the masses in form of taxes and perform various functions to make life smooth and simple for people.

In modern day India, especially which is a socialist economy, we have a failed system. A total collapse of anything that should be called the government. Consider this. At central level, we have a government. At state level, we have state governments and then their are the zila parishads, municipal corporations etc.

We vote for a body but what exactly these people do? More importantly why do we need to pay the taxes?
1) Electricity. Privatize it. That's the nation's call. After it has happened in Mumbai and Delhi, from transmission to production of electricity, private players are jumping in.
2) Water. Privatize it. Yes, shortage of water all over India is raising a call for the capitalists to take some money and provide the Goddamm water in a proper sensible way.
3) Roads. We pay toll taxes on highways after every few kilometres. We pay road taxes. Why the hell we need a government if we got to pay and go? We could have hired our own contractor and paid him off. Instead of involving the government and then paying the contractor anyway. (Point can be noted here that our MPs, ministers and MLAs are exempted to pay any toll tax).

Let me see what else can be essential to life in our country. Education? Private universities are much better than the government ones, which are only cheap and have a vintage goodwill which pulls students towards them. We still need more private money for education.

Railways and Airways have seen government role to be played to mess them up at amazing levels. Our railways minister does not like her Delhi office and Airline minister gets flights diverted on whims of his daughter. Even if you ignore these things as we always do in our country, both are in mess. Huge mess. Same with waterways.

So why do we need governments, when ultimately we have to ask capitalists for help?
When we start trusting in their services, despite the fact that we hate their guts.

We saw it in telephone sector. In housing sector. In banking and finance sector. We saw that we were more at ease with private players than the government. We also know how badly our tax money is used.

After all these are the very promises done by the politicians in elections. Bijli sadak pani. Electricity, roads and water top the list on any netajie's agenda. If a corporate guy has to be thrust upon us, so that he makes money then why do we need the neta?
So think of the question again and do answer in the comment box.

A woman's biggest enemy

My mother has quite an in depth knowledge of society and how it functions. Experience counts.
So, once she told me, "Aurat hi doosri aurat ki sabse bade dushman hoti hai". ( A woman is another woman's greatest enemy).

Fair I think. In fact, I feel a woman can be the deadliest enemy ever to any sex possible in the world (Male, female, gays, any). Almost all ancient wars in all of the lands had a woman being listed as a big reason. Think of it. You need flowers for your lady. Precious agricultural land is being used to cultivate those roses that won't even last a day.

Coming back to the point of one woman versus the other. Recently, in New York, one Indian mother threw her girl in river (I think it is the Hudson) and tried to commit suicide herself, to prove a point to her husband. This happened this month. Last month, allegedly, Nirupama Pathak a journo with the Business Standard was killed by her own mother. The lady has not managed to get a bail yet. I think.

Now one incident happened in New York and other in Jharkhand. I come closer to my own State, Punjab and our neighbors Haryana. Female foeticide the highest here. The kill of the girl in the foetus. Now, men may be insensitive, demanding but women? How can you expect your son to respect you, to give you proper treatment, when you never hesitated to kill your own girl, for she was a girl? And why should anyone consider you worth empowerment when you go around burying infants after not being satisfied with its sex?

Yes. While foeticide is widely reported and severely checked, infanticide in villages is so well concealed that you would never get a word out of anyone. Why an infant should be buried alive under trees or bushed for the couple wanted a boy and not a girl is a question straight away pointed to a woman. It is a woman to woman thing.

My dad likes watching sports, is fond of his car, likes to smoke. I understand. It is a man to man understanding. Same way, where is the woman to woman understanding? Now that we have seen to the foteus and infants, what happens to the plight of those girls, sold in their teens for as low as 5000- 15000 Indian rupees in several parts of my country and numerous countries in the world? If you read stories related to such incidents, mothers have often known what would happen to their daughters. Relatives, friends would know of the consequences and won't react. Then if they themselves don't act, why blame men for not treating them right?

Next comes a stage of a girl's life that is called marriage. Honor killings are happening all over India as if I am stuck in barbaric ages. You marry the boy of our caste or we kill you.
It looks to me like Dharmendra wanting the kill the villain in a bollywood movie to take avenge of some sort. Pointing pistols all around. How can anyone do it? Kill your own daughter for not towing your line? Thank God for making me a man. I have too much of my own mind to tolerate such things.

That's it, I guess. Mothers of today hush up their girls and ask them not to tell anyone about the way some uncle touched them or molested them. That is the reason why so many rape cases go unreported. For if it is a family member, mother would usually be the first person to convince the girl to shut up. Or mothers of our modern era would give their daughter so much freedom ( actually double for their age, so as to compensate for all that freedom that they never had in their times) that their actions, dumbness, vulnerability have become a cause of social concern.

But most amusing is the way still mothers act in marriages. Be it a boy or a girl, when it comes to bargaining on the dowry or settling down a price, women folk are wonderful. When recently a guy's mother and a girl's mother were bouncing around between the price range of 80 lakhs to 1 crore (If the girl's mother would have said 1.5, deal would have been sealed instantly, and the boy's mother was certain that she would get out that price from the lady) I who is used to all this matrimonial alliances, quitely remarked to my mother,
'You all high society people are reminding of pashu mela that happens in the Animal University next door. Where they auction off animals to the highest bidder.'

The positive side of the whole essay kind of write up that I have written is that the whole World in general and India in particular has fallen so low in treatment of women, that we cannot stoop any lower than this. So, cheerz to that.

Chatting up with a private blogger

For several of us, blogging through the years, blogs become a part of not only our lives, but also a reservoir of our memories and thoughts. Not surprisingly, many bloggers choose to keep their blogs on a private mode. Where only few selected people, are invited to peep into the particular person's life and mind.

I think, this is one of the most positive features on blogger as I have never seen such privacy settings on blogs hosted by other websites. Anyway, coming to the point, I caught up with a friend of mine, who also happens to be a secretive blogger. She very kindly gave away some minutes out of her busy schedule to answer questions for Blog Orangy. Read on:

So that was it. Bloggers around me, often get entangled in what is called a writer's block. I am seldom affected by it. For blogging is not just about writing blogs and responding to comments, it is also about discovering new blogs and browsing the ones in our bookmarks list. So when I am not writing here, I am browsing someplace else. And sooner or later some idea kicks in.

One of the most refreshing blogs I have discovered in past days is [M]^2. It has a wonderful ambiance, a very interesting header and plainly one of the best personal blogs I have ever been to. Great work done their by blogger Mindy.

Naxals versus the state versus human right groups

War has been happening around us for years now and well educated patriot middle class Indians form a majority of those Indians who know little about the naxal issue plaguing our country.

It all happened from naxalbari in West Bengal, as usual with a dash of political rivalry and a means to garner more power. As it happens with most uprisings, the politicians soon lose control over the rebels who now run wild. Same happened here, with naxals donning a new sinister avtar of Maoists. Their sole agenda today is to capture as much power as they can.

All thanks to public of India and republic of India, the Maoists have spread over to almost half of the country and are quite active in Orissa, Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. We Indians, failed to look after our brothers and sisters in less developed parts of the eastern coast (although India is our mother land, that does not mean we have to be nice to our siblings too). Our attitude of, we don't give a damm, or we don't care created a power vacuum which was filled with Maoists. They got ample of support from those poor people and they still keep on growing from strength to strength.

So while Maoists grew richer, the poor tribals got poorer, what did the state do? It relaxed.
And why not? National Security Guards, Commandos of the Army are meant to serve bodyguards to Very very very important people like politicians. Or to remover insurgents from a five star hotel like we saw on 26th November, 2008. Glitz and Glamor, we people prefer. Those people of Chattisgarh can train their own people and form a Salwa Judum. The whole idea of Salwa Judum, backfired and properly criticized. But no one appreciated a good effort done. And should army be called in or not, is a separate debate, a ferocious one, I tell you so let the people die like it happened today on the 17th of May, 2010. A bus full of people dead. Killed.

Here comes the human rights angle. NGOs and several people have openly shown their sympathies with the naxals. They perhaps, to my knowledge and intelligence feel that the people, whose own female cadre have had accused them of raping them are very nice lovely people. So we should sit down with them, and discuss things with them. What my intelligence fails me to tell is what do you talk to people who have murdered several thousand of your people, raped women, have been responsible for loot etc? At times gossips interest me, for I am a writer. Well, over tea I can gossip with them at the most, but what kind of solution can you reach with people who have absolute no morality at all. They are lusting after power. So if any of you, who knows why talks should happen, enlighten me please.

Now comes our political angle. It is very simple. If they will get some votes out of it, they will surely do something for it. Otherwise, sorry. Our country lacks leadership, so naxals are having gala time. To give you an example, our home minister has been criticized on his naxal policy by none other than a fellow party man of his. They don't care much. They even have refused to hang a terrorist who attacked Parliament of India. The temple of our democracy. But then they are the representatives of those people who in most probability don't give a hoot to what happens in those remote, under developed regions.

A stampede at New Delhi Railway Station

Stampede has finally happened at the New Delhi Railway Station and it feels to me like the volcano that was bursting to come out for sooo long and has finally spewed out some of it's fire.

The New Delhi railway station, the main rail station of the Capital of our country is symbolic of how careless and unsympathetic we Indians are. It has two entrances. One is from Paharganj side and the other is the Ajmeri Gate side. I have been in and out of both the gates on many occasions I have visited Delhi through train. I have grown up but the station has not. It is as chaotic today, than through so many years of my visit.

Last time I was their was incidentally the longest I ever have been to the New Delhi Station ( NDLS). On 12th April, I had to come back to Ludhiana from Delhi and had booked my ticket for a train called Gareeb Rath. It was 3-4 hours late. Pathetic conditions on the station literally depressed me. I think each and every long distance train was late. Only the rajdhanis and shatabdis run on time I think.

So what happens? People are stranded in large quantities on all 16 platforms of the station. The delay of trains causes frequent changing of probable platforms on which the train might come and chaos reigns like a King. The same happened with the stampede that happened. On a short notice, the platforms were changed and the waiting people just rushed in.

What else can do the passenger do? A train that comes late will have to cut down on the time that was to be the stop over. So lets say, a train stops at the station for 10 minutes. If it is very late, it will stop for only say 5 minutes. So people push and rush. No other option. They have been waiting for so long on a filthy station and now are eager to start their journey.

And the condition of the station I think has been plagiarized by Hitler's idea of a war camp. It's that bad. Announcements that are happening often do not confirm with the electronic display boards, installed on various locations. Water supply is more meant to waste than to provide. Que for tickets and inquiry is too long. Toilets, well you got the point anyway.

It is pathetic and it is sad. Whole of New Delhi is being refurbished and polished to welcome foreigners for the Commonwealth Games. That's the priority. But what about us? We who frequent the city in routine to meet friends and family? We are nothing to the people of Delhi?
For it is the representative of the people who run that railway station. So my questions will direct to the people and public of India. What are you all thinking? Do you really deserve this? Did those people deserve to die, who only wanted to get on with their journey. Most probably to their homes.

The whole episode does not upset or shock me very much. I was their once. My train was to arrive at platform no. 10, but it was late so I went to the waiting room that was on platform no.16. Then I came to knew that train will now come on platform 1. Then they announced that platform should be 2, for shatabdi needed the platform 1.

When I heard the story, I could live the ordeal of the people for real. Its sad though that the people of India have brought such bad state to public services like railways, so well made by Britishers.

Simple steps to Save water ... The Ice way and the other ways

Shubh Gupta is a teenager, who loves his coke with plenty of ice.

Mrs. Geetika is a housewife, who likes to entertain her friends and family. One of her specialties is Jaljeera, which she prepares with loads of ice to make it refreshing and cool.

Pritam Singh is a farmer, who works in his fields the whole day and likes to unwind with a glass full of lassi containing at least 3-4 ice cubes.

Now, you might have heard about and seen, experienced a lot many people, enjoying their beverages with generous quantities of ice. From Scotch to Shinkwanji, ice is a common ingredient in all.

So I say, why throw the left over ice in the sink? Why not throw it in the soil where plants grow?
The ice will soon melt way and plants will get some irrigation too.
________________________________________________

Blogger Shruti, when asked about one simple idea to save water, actually gave me two (She is quite generous by nature)
1) Make sure that u have a bath in just one bucket of water
2) Use a crusher to get rid of the dirt from the dishes. A bone crusher that crushes the food left on the plate. This reduces the water used to wash the dishes.

When I asked blogger Akriti to lend in some of her views on the topic, she gave me two very interesting points

1) Don't use it

2) Turn off the tap when not in use

Well, on this note, I may add that I belong to that lucky population on Earth who can enjoy a 24 hour water supply. Still, I feel since water is slowly becoming a luxury, it is our responsibility too. The fortunate ones should not just shrug off, saying that that their is no water problem in our area. Everyone should make efforts to curb wastage.

Blogger Tamanna, texted me a short while ago two of her favorite water conservation techniques.

1) Closing the tap while brushing teeth

2) Bathing with a bucket and not taking a shower.

So friends, each and every step you take on water conservation it counts. Every drop makes an ocean and we do need a healthier ocean of groundwater that is declining so rapidly.

Saving each drop will only save that ocean. Do your bit. But not before commenting in your ideas, tips, suggestions on water conservation.

Retirement Joys

At some point of life, I think we all just fantasize about how a retired life could be. Especially in our young days.

For some it could be an Island setting, a house overlooking the ocean, watching the sunset with the loved one.

Their exist a vast majority of people who wish to travel once they are done with their worldly duties.

My point here is, why do people wish and dream for that future. Why not run away today to that mountain where you wished for a log house with your companion.

Why wait for 50 or 60 to come, so that you retire and open up a business today.

Sure thing, you can say that fantasies remain fantasies or that these are things that you do when you are old.
Why is that I fail to understand...

Sashaland

Helloz everyone. Welcome to Sashaland. Also at times called the Shashaland. No, we don't sell all those sashes worn by sexc babes at beauty contests. We are, well an agrarian community and we grow it all from rice to mice. What did you say?
Who am I?
Well, I am King Shasha, who rules this place in a dictorial manner. No, No, I don't gas up people like Hitler, nor do I have an army of bodyguards like most of the rulers of today's peaceful lands have. People of my land love me and women folk adore me. *Blushing*

Now, you must be wondering, why am I writing this or more importantly what the hell am I doing here. You see, I am a king, which literally means that I have to enjoy luxuries of life, fight wars and keep women. But that was a very medieval definition. Now, no war has to be fought, for Americans have monopolized that job. Women, well that is my little secret. And luxury; with so many thieves and con men around display of wealth is strongly inadvisable.

So what should I do? My Junta does not allow me to do anything as such so here I am wanting to enjoy blog world, facebook or whatever you people have on internet.

Internet is new for my country and am the sole user here. I mean why do we need internet? Social networking best happens when you have a melas every month. You cannot come out of a mela before greeting one whole village full of people.
Sorry people, have to go. It's supper time. See you all soon.

The Clandestine Love Affair

The girl swept her right hand across her face. The flick of her hair was bothering her for some time, clinging towards her eyes.

She was standing outside the apartment building where the doctor had gone a while ago. This would be big break for me, she mused. Writing gossips about doctors having affair with patients or secretaries or nurses was now so out of class. Some would say it is so Mills & Boons and the more contemporary ones would ask you innocently; Does not everyone has an affair these days?

But the doctor in question was visiting the home of a very rich businessman. Their secret meetings perhaps had been happening over an year now. Or so did the telephone records indicated which had been arranged for the girl. At a price of course.

Presently, she climbed up the building in the backdrop of which she was standing. To he luck she found the terrace door open and securing a comfortable position, got her binoculars out.

She saw the two beautiful men kissing each other and for a moment a wave of guilt ran across through her body. She felt bad for intruding as she spotted their eyes, lit up in child like innocence. The spark of love that she saw, they seriously could not declare that love in public, her long standing experience in journalism, reminded her that.

She drew out a cigarette from her pocket, lit it up, exhaled deeply and as the smoke escpaped from her nostrils, she uttered
'Cowards'

Attemting a Tag ... If I were ...

Its been years since I attempted any tag or passed around any. In the afternoon found a very interesting on a blog titled A rose is a rose is a rose!( rose being one of my favorite plants; explains why I landed up there)

All I got to do ( and you too after you read this) is attempt these If I were(s)

  • If I were a month, I would be April ( for it marks the start of a new year according to our lunar Hindu calendar and hence reminds us of fresh beginnings and new starts.)
  • If I were a day of the week, Sunday ( for it symbolizes to me, a day to relax, to cook, not to go out anywhere and spend some quality family time)
  • If I were a time of day, I would be afternoon ( Always bright and over bearing :P )
  • If I were a season, I would be spring ( for bygone is now bygone and it is time to act and do everything afresh and fresh )

  • If I were a planet, I would have options like Mars ( Mangal is my surname so they are akin) or Pluto (My friend Khus always loved that planet) or Jupiter (Sabu of Chacha Chaudhary came from there) but I would chose Earth; for it's variety of everything.

  • If I were a direction, East is my favorite destination for Sun rises up from there.
  • If I were a piece of furniture, A plush recliner type of sofa. Comfy and relaxing yet stylish & sophisticated looking.
  • If I were a liquid, I’d be a lemonade (Sweet and tangy)

  • If I were a tree, I’d be a Mango tree. For the shade it gives out and the fruits it bestows. Not to forget a towering personality.
  • If I were a tool, pliers.( My dad used to manufacture them, and am awed by its utility. I manage to use it for a plethora of purposes.)
  • If I were a flower, A rose ( for the fragrance and the short life it has; giving out a great impact.)
  • If I were an element, gold. Always shining and also for the exuberance it radiates.

  • If I were a gemstone, Diamond - for clarity and sparkle. ( Not to mention how much females love diamonds :-P)

  • If I were a kind of weather, a blend of nice sun and good rains. ( Just like that)

  • If I were a musical instrument, Piano perhaps. ( for rhythms and patterns.)

  • If I were a color, Orange ( brightness and buoyancy )
  • If I were an emotion, The silent kind of happiness. the one u have tears in ur eyes and a smile in your heart.

  • If I were a fruit, Apple perhaps. Like the crunchy sound of it.
  • If I were a sound, the sound of rain falling over the earth. Touche.

  • If I were a car, Willy's ( Rough, Tough and likes to munch food now and then.)
  • If I were a material, Linen ( Cool, stylish and sophisticated)
  • If I were a food, Aloo's chaat ( Spicy and wonderful)
  • If I were a taste, Taste of chocolate. Rich Dark Chocolate. ( It has that Oomph factor)

  • If I were a scent, it would be a variant of musk. (For the masculine and raw fragrance it radiates.)
  • If I were an object, a book ( All knowledgeable, possibly preachy but still your best friend.)
  • If I were a song, I’d be Hazaron Khwahishen aisi, ki har khwahish pe dum nikle. ( for the zillion ambitions my heart carries )
  • If I were a body part, the brain ( for it always opposes the heart; at least most of the times)
  • If I were a place, Anywhere with large farms, meadows and a lovely cottage. (For although it shall sound like a calm place, inside it would be tough and rough, just like me)
  • If I were a facial expression, A long distant glance towards the horizon ( for the search of depth and also for the calmness that is at that time on the face)
  • If I were a pair of shoes, I’d be a pair of sandals ( for it has both, some open spaces, some closed spaces)
I wish all my friends and readers do this tag. So if you are reading it, do attempt it, but not before commenting here.
Thanks

As Story with Non - Sensical Sense

Well, storytelling is an art. And ppl attempts to create a story with a logic, but whether they pass or fail in the process is a fun in itself. So here is a story made up by story tellers. TM, TK and PA

TM: we are starting a story; next person will say one sentence; the other another sentence; it should be logical.TK u start.
PA: haan start kar
TK: once upon a time there was this girl.
PA: who used to love dreaming
TM: about this girl called
TK: Naina, her daughter
TM. :): who was sleeping
TK. :): in her tummy ever since she started dreaming
PA. :): every single night, just one scene came in front of eyes...
TM .:): oh that guy who loved her
TK .:): whom she dreamt of spending her life with, enacting every scene in her mind
TK ..:): perfect, the way she wanted it to be
PA ..:): laughing and chuckling to herself for he must have done that he must have said that
TM .:): about the pressure cooker in the kitchen
TK .:): then abruptly stopping all those thoughts, realizing and being afraid that she might never get him
PA ..:): but every morning she rose up with a new hope
PA ..:): a hope of being with him
PA ..:.): a hope of having him beside her
TM .:): a hope of getting him wash her clothes and his too
TK .:): together they washed clothes and did all the chores in her dream world
PA .:): where they both used to throw water at each other
TM .:): and also cook food
TK .:): and read and write and serve the society, but
PA .:.): but coming back to the reality, they were not with each other
TM .:): because he was with another guy
TK .:): who was his dad, and he was close to him and he didn’t want him to be with that girl
PA .:): and he had to chose, between his responsibilities and his love for her
TM .:): and also between Suzie and Ramona
TK .:): and he was very confused, he couldn’t decide how and on which basis to take the decision
PA .:): Susie and Ramona were his unmarried sisters
TM .:): who were believed to be vampires
TK .:): by the society around them which was all crazy, for society is a very crazy thing
TM .:): and could not say whether it is a boy, girl or other

TK .:.): despite all that he loved her, loved her purely
PA .:): the sonogram was done, it was a baby boy
TM .:): yet she did not know the name of the father of the boy
TK ..:): she had fallen in love with him on the fst sight, the name was insignificant, so were the other details
PA .:7): there was no need for knowing the name of the father, for she knew his smell, his touch and most importantly his recognized his soul
PA .:): she*
TM .:): which was no different et all from her previous boyfriend and the one before him
TK .:): which were all the same man, his different phases, sometimes caring, sometimes funny et al
PA .7:): yet she was always unsure whether it’s enough to sustain the lovely bond of love between them?
TM .:): or should she go and do shop in the supermarket for some grocery
TK .:): so that she can make delicious dishes for him when he comes to meet her
PA .:): or should she fill the room with rose petals all across
TM .:): now everyone knows that rose petals come from roses that are grown in gardens
TK .:.): and they have great fragrance that give a different kind of peace
TK .:): gives
PA .:): a different kind of emotion, a different feeling of love
TM .:): just like raj and riya used to have
TK .:): when they went to their balcony where they had lots of rose plants of different colours
PA .:): when they used to look at each other's eyes, even the roses smiled with jealousy
PA .:): in*
TM .:): and even jealous was raj auntie opposite door
TK ..:): for she also remembered her moments spent wid Raj's uncle, who now a days was lost consuming liquor day and night
PA looking at them one evening, she was reminded of her very first kiss, when both of them were very young
TM .:.): and raju the chaiwala was staring at them
TK .:): with the two glasses of chai in his hand, for it was raining and they had stopped for chai at his stall amongst the greenery all around
PA .:): even before the chai could be served, they were done
TM .:): and then the scene changes to story of the white sari clad girl named chandrakanta
TK .:): who lost her husband in the war
PA .:): the war between US and Russia
TM .:): and between Iceland and Fire land
TK .:): and then the scene changes to tushar eating bhelpuri
PA .:): and not sharing it with Tamm and PA
TM .:): but sharing it with the chandrakanta who is now wearing white sari
TK .:): even though chandraknta has already finished her plate of bhelpuri
